I made a new friend!
Owning your own business is lonely. Especially when you have no staff and you’re so new you hardly have any customers to talk to. I love having my kitten, but let’s face it, he’s not great at making conversation.
I’ve been thinking if I just had like one more friend life would feel better.
making friends as adult is super hard. We all know it. That’s why there are so many articles on how to do it. I read one and it said that you should join clubs or take classes, go to shows you like, or take yourself out for a drink at a bar, all good advice. But what if you, like me, can’t actually afford to do any of that..and what if the thing you’re most interested in is a little outside the box?
I am really fortunate that I was able to create a shop that is a direct reflection of me. When people come in and are excited about the taxidermy or the dead bird photos, then I know we’re gonna get along just fine. One very brave lady broke the ice. We had been talking about bones and such while she was shopping. She came in the store and said hey, I’m gonna be super friendly and invite you over to my place, I have some extra mice if you’d like to do taxidermy…and I was so excited I literally jumped out of my seat!
We exchanged numbers and quickly set up a time to meet- that night! And she taught me what to do and I loved it. We chatted the whole time and she asked me if I’d ever heard of the book “Noisy Nora”? I have had that book memorized since I was five!
and that’s it, we’re friends now. She lives at the end of my block and we can just go to each other’s houses to play, with dead animals. Or drink wine on her porch. Or play dress up. She makes me coffe and brings it to the shop on weekends 💖
i cant even really remember life without her now! Although I know this version of my life is so, so, so much better!!!
thank you Joan, for being the wonderful, brave, beautiful soul that you are! 👯♀️
P.S….watch the shop window for our Halloween taxidermy display we’ve been working on! 💀 🙊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
